If your family has a Disaster Preparedness Plan in place, make sure it contains a plan for Hurricanes. Although they are not very common in Georgia, some of the damage can still affect certain areas of the state.

With hurricanes, in general, the path can be forecast a few days in advance, giving time for homeowners to prepare.

Here are some tips from the National Safety Council

• You should secure loose items outdoors, like furniture and tools.
• Discuss with the family an evacuation plan, meeting point, and how to get there
• If you live in a mobile home, make arrangements to shelter in a sturdier structure.
• Have a radio handy to listen for warnings.
