• Prevention and maintenance is key

  • Try to keep as much of the rainwater away from your home. Look at the grade of your backyard and make sure it slopes away from your home and not towards your basement).
  • Repair any visible cracks in the walls or floors.
  • Review your insurance policy and check for flood insurance. Only 5% of homeowners in the US have flood insurance.
  • Buy flood sensors or ask your security company about them. New technology allows you to monitor your basement from your phone.
