Fire Extinguisher Use
7/28/2020 (Permalink)
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says that having a fire extinguisher available is just one element of a fire emergency plan, but always keep in mind that the most important thing is SAFETY.
OSHA regulations state that business owners and employers are responsible for the placement, use, maintenance, and testing of fire extinguishers. They always have to maintain fully charged and operable fire extinguishers in designated places. All employees should be trained on how to properly use a fire extinguisher and regularly do fire drills to practice the escape plan.
If you must use an extinguisher, remember the word PASS
- Pull- Pull the pin
- Aim- Aim low at the base of the fire
- Squeeze- Squeeze the operating lever above the handle
- Sweep- Sweep the nozzle from side to side
