Determining what type of water damage you are dealing with

When our technicians go to a home or business, the first thing they must do is determine what kind of water damage they are dealing with. In the industry we use Categories to determine if we are dealing with clean water, gray water, or black water.

Category 1 (clean water) damage is usually from a broken pipes, rain or snow water, overflowing sinks, etc.

Category 2 (gray water) damage does not contain human waste products. It could be due to a leaking washing machine, or a leak in an aquarium.

Category 3 (black water) damage is the most contaminated type of water loss, and it comes from sewage backups or floodwater from natural disasters. If you are dealing with this type of loss, call a professional immediately.
